Great for hard ground, terrible if not
June 21, 2017
This is a heavy retriever. It does fit in the big pocket of my Ping Hoofer, but due to weight, I wouldn't leave in the bag if I am carrying my bag. For this device to work, the ball needs to bend the spring in the middle of the ring to trigger the "grab". This works well if the floor of the water is solid/hard. If the floor is soft however, it is impossible to get the spring to engage. Consider the area you try and retrieve balls most often when choosing this type of device.
Pros
- Sturdy and long
- Great for hard bottomed ponds/lakes
Cons
- Heavy
- Difficult to use if pond/lake has a soft bottom
